Disk space is probably the most variable aspect of the system as it is highly dependent on how much data is entered into the system. Typically, the items that most highly impact the amount of disk space required are:
- the number of samples you process
- the number of results that are associated with each sample
- the number and size of external file attachments
- the number of times records are edited (audit trail)
A general approximation (using the average of several existing databases) shows that you'll need about 1 GB of disk space for 50,000 samples. The range can vary between 25,000 to 75,000 samples per GB based on the 4 tables that historically exhibit the most growth.
